What unites Germany and the Netherlands? What can they learn from one another – say, regarding the integration of immigrants and refugees? Such topics will be discussed by representatives from the social, scientific and political spheres at the Dutch-German Forum on 17 and 18 January 2017 in Berlin. Some 20 people from Germany, the Netherlands, Syria and Iran will accompany the forum with this blog.
Migration and the concept of cultural integration into increasingly diverse European societies is one of the most debated issues in Europe at the moment. The Dutch-German Forum 2017 wants to discuss the migration asylum nexus with all its complexity and ambiguity. How do we uphold the fundamental rights of people seeking safety in Europe? How can we bring different perspectives into a debate that is partly drawn by fears of a loss of sovereignty and cultural identities in the context of migration and integration?
